Contributing to Rapid Diagnosis of Hypothyroidism in Dogs

Addition of TSH Testing Reagent to the Vcheck V200 Immunoassay Measurement Device

Enables In-hospital Testing of Thyroid Function

ARKRAY, Inc. (headquarters: Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, Japan; hereinafter "ARKRAY") will release、Vcheck cTSH, a new dog-only testing reagentfor use with the Vcheck V200 (South Korea: BioNote, Inc. manufactured), an immunoassay measurement device dedicated to cats and dogs, on November 14, 2023. Measurements of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) and T4 (a type of thyroid hormone) are used to diagnose hypothyroidism in dogs. Combining these with measurement results from the existing Vcheck T4 reagent enables in-hospital testing of thyroid function, which contributes to rapid diagnosis of hypothyroidism in dogs.

Vcheck cTSH is an in vitro diagnostic test kit that quantitatively measures TSH level in the serum of dogs. The Vcheck cTSH testing reagent is dedicated for use with the Vcheck V200 immunoassay measurement device and enables in-hospital measurement of TSH levels. In combination with results measured by the existing Vcheck T4 reagent, it will facilitate rapid diagnoses of hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disorder commonly found in dogs. Decreased production of thyroid hormone causes a variety of symptoms, including lethargy, apathy, obesity, and tragic facial expression. In cases where hypothyroidism is suspected, the level of T4 (a type of thyroid hormone) in blood is measured first.

But since it is difficult to differentiate hypothyroidism from similar diseases with T4 test results alone, TSH testing is also needed. TSH is secreted from the anterior pituitary, and stimulates the release of thyroid hormones. Measuring TSH along with T4 enables hypothyroidism to be differentiated from similar diseases.

Such tests have previously been outsourced to external laboratories, but Vcheck cTSH enables thyroid function tests to be completed on-site. This eliminates the necessity for revisits to the clinic, lightening the burden on owners.
